At your consultation for a mommy makeover Seattle plastic surgeon Dr. Hakim Said meets with you to discuss which areas you wish to improve. Perhaps you have sagging breasts, loose abdominal skin, ab muscle separation, stretch marks, or breast volume loss after pregnancy.
Dr. Said understands the toll pregnancy takes on the body. He is attentive to your needs, and will take the time to answer your questions. The goal of the consultation is not to push you to have surgery, but rather to help you decide if a mommy makeover is right for you, and what improvements would benefit you. Dr. Said is there to help you achieve your body contouring goals in a caring, supportive and professional setting.
Dr. Said is trained in complex abdominal repairs and breast reconstruction. Based on your discussion, he will create a surgical plan that fits your cosmetic preferences. You may choose to have a mini tummy tuck, full tummy tuck, liposuction, breast lift (with or without implants), or a combination of any of these. After the consultation, a member of his staff provides estimates for any services you are considering. The next step is booking your surgery date.
Please follow all pre-operative instructions. After taking your vitals and changing into a dressing gown, Dr. Said meets with you to go over any last-minute questions. Markings are drawn on your skin to guide the surgery. An anesthesiologist administers medications to make you feel sleepy. Your vitals are constantly monitored during surgery. After your procedure, you will awake in a recovery room. Patients return home the same day.
Breast Lift Procedure: Dr. Said places incisions on the breast. Usually a scar around the areola is used, and incisions on the lower breast. In select cases, a vertical incision can be avoided for a more natural, unoperated look. Through the incisions, the breast tissue can be lightened if needed. A breast lift tightens loose breast skin and raises drooping breasts. Breast implants or natural fat may be added once the excess skin is removed to restore volume to deflated breasts. Afterward, the incisions are closed neatly to minimize scarring.
Tummy Tuck Procedure: Dr. Said makes a horizontal incision on the lower abdomen. The tissue is dissected up to the ribs. The navel is freed from the skin so that it can be moved to a natural position on the abdomen later. Abdominal muscle separation is fixed by stitching the muscles together. The skin is pulled downward toward the pubic area so it is nice and taut. Excess skin is removed. A small incision is created for the belly button. The belly button is passed through the incision and sutured in place. The lower abdominal incision is closed in layers. The surgery takes approximately three to five hours. This describes a full tummy tuck with muscle repair. Techniques vary based on your individual tummy tuck plan. For example, a mini tummy tuck does not address the muscles or upper abdomen. Navel repositioning is also generally not necessary.
Liposuction Procedure: Dr. Said makes a small incision (1/4”). A local anesthetic is administered to stiffen the fat tissue and reduce bleeding. A cannula (thin, hollow tube) is inserted to loosen the fat. The fat cells are removed with machine-assisted suction. Liposuction takes between one to three hours. The length of time depends on the amount of fat to be removed. The incision is closed. The scar is hardly visible once healed.
The recovery time depends on the extent of your surgery. You may be asked to take two to six weeks off of work. Driving may be resumed when you feel confident that you have a full range of motion. Do not drive while taking prescription pain medications that cause drowsiness.
Please avoid heavy lifting and exercise for at least six to eight weeks. It is best to avoid intensive workout programs and core exercise in the first three months of recovery. Short walks are recommended, starting on the same day as surgery. Most discomfort subsides in the first three days. Pain medication is prescribed for a more comfortable recovery.
Antibiotics are also prescribed to lower the risk of infection. Swelling after cosmetic surgery is normal. Breast work may require wearing a special supportive bra for a few weeks. You may be asked to wear compression garments to reduce swelling and assist with skin retraction. Bruising may occasionally occur. This takes approximately two weeks to fade.
After the initial recovery period, you can start enjoying the results. A mommy makeover with Dr. Said leaves your abdomen and breasts more youthful, smooth, and contoured.
Shopping for clothes and swimwear becomes a fun activity, rather than a chore. You are likely to feel significantly improved confidence in your looks. Most patients report a stronger desire to participate in activities they once avoided due to embarrassment about loose skin and breast sagging. After a mommy makeover, you will not have to hide your breasts or tummy any longer. This brings huge freedom and relief to patients that once struggled with body image concerns after pregnancy.
